St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center and Morris Hall campus to be sold

The St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center and Morris Hall, which are located on a 35-acre campus off of Denow Road and Route 206 in Lawrenceville, will be sold.

Morris Hall/St. Lawrence, Inc., the owner of the campus, is a non-profit organization offering inpatient nursing and rehabilitative services, as well as residential, assisted living, and rehabilitation services to patients. Since its establishment in 1904, Morris Hall has operated under the sponsorship of the Diocese of Trenton.

Darlene Hanley, the president and CEO of Morris Hall/St. Lawrence since 2011, announced that due to recent challenges facing skilled nursing centers, assisted living facilities, and hospitals, the leadership of Morris Hall/St. Lawrence Inc. is seeking a buyer for the healthcare campus, which consists of Morris Hall Senior Care Communities and the St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center. She said the COVID-19 pandemic has brought enormous burdens to the post-acute industry, adding to difficulties already faced by providers such as St. Lawrence and Morris Hall.

“The healthcare environment has changed and is no longer conducive to smaller independent facilities,” Hanley said in a written statement on the Diocese of Trenton’s website.

Morris Hall includes St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Center, Morris Hall Meadows Skilled Nursing, and St. Mary’s Assisted Living. The 50-year-old St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, also located on the same campus, is a physical rehabilitation hospital providing services and programs on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The Diocese of Trenton’s priest retirement residence, Villa Vianney, is also located on the same campus next to the Morris Hall/St. Lawrence facilities. Villa Vianney will not be part of the sale.

The Diocese of Trenton issued a statement about the sale of the skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities.

“While we are profoundly grateful for the gift of this wonderful facility, we recognize the challenges of today’s health care and business climate, and the need for Morris Hall to pursue this next step,” the statement reads. “We are confident that the leadership of Morris Hall/St. Lawrence will ensure that the buyer of this facility will share the values and commitment to service to the Greater Mercer area.”
