Police investigating murder at Lawrence Square Village condominiums
A 36-year-old Lawrence resident died after being shot in his home at Lawrence Square Village Friday.
At about 12:30 a.m. on Friday, August 11, police in Lawrence responded to a condominium complex on Mendrey Court after receiving a 911 phone call that someone had been shot. Officers arrived and found a male victim in the living room of the condominium. He had been shot in the back. The victim, Anthony Irizarry, was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
In 2014, Irizarry was arrested with three other people after more than $80,000 worth of heroin, an assault weapon with an extended magazine, and a loaded .32-caliber revolver were found by police when they searched a house and garage in Trenton.
The shooting is under investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the
Lawrence Township Police Department. No arrests have been made. Anyone with

I think it’s inappropriate to list his decade-old record here. He’s the victim, not the perpetrator, and the police haven’t released a motive. It’s biased reporting and you should take that section down. A father was killed today and you’re placing blame on him with that kind of reporting.
I live in the neighborhood and I don’t think the article is tainting anybody. Anyway this information will come up in the news because those are public records. I’m scared now because I walk in the neighborhood early in the morning and have been living here for more than 25 years and this is the first time we hear or experienced this violence. I feel sad for the situation and I hope they catch the perpetrators.
What does his past have to do with anything when his time was served. This man has 2 legitimate businesses to provide for his family. He was a loving husband and father….its sad that people are always quick to point out the bad but never the good. May he rest in peace and may justice be served.
As someone who lives in the area I think it is very relevant information because it tells me that this probably was not a random robbery and maybe I shouldn’t be scared or in a panic, as sad as this death or any death is.
Mentioning the deceased previous arrest is biased and irresponsible reporting. The article does not draw a clear connection between the previous arrest and the victim’s murder. Without that connection, a 2014 arrest has no place here.
There is a way to tell residents they can feel safe in their community without eluding that the victim might have been involved in something that would lead to murder. That creates a dangerous narrative because if the victim’s murder has no connection to the victim’s past, those details were revealed for no reason and decreases much-needed sympathy for this victim and their loved ones.
