Cyclist from Lambertville suffers fatal injuries after being struck by vehicle in Millstone Township (updated)

A 61-year-old cyclist was biking alone along Route 571 in Millstone on Labor Day when she was struck by a vehicle and sustained head injuries, police said. She was taken to the Jersey Shore Medical Center, a level-one trauma center. She suffered fatal injuries to the head and was on life support, being prepared for organ donations.

The victim, Marina Vrahnos, lived in Lambertville and was a massage therapist. She was biking on Route 571 South just after 8:30 a.m. Monday at milepost 28 in Millstone in Monmouth County when the driver of a Kia Sedona traveling southbound struck her, a public information officer for the New Jersey State Police said on Wednesday. The driver remained on the scene after the crash, police said.

The crash is still under investigation, police said.

Vrahnos was outgoing and was known to many cyclists in the area. She participated in the annual Anchor House Ride for Runaways a few years with her partner, Claudio, and was known for showing kindness to other cyclists.

  1. What a tragic accident! I met her a few times and she exuded kindness and a warm smile. I even took a yoga class with her years ago. This is a true example of a loving kind person gone too soon.

  2. What a kind person. I only met her once but she left a strong impression on me. She was a special person that I will not forget.
