Lawrence Police make another mail theft arrest

Police in Lawrence have arrested a mail theft suspect who was caught near the U.S. Post Office on Business Route 1 early Friday morning, Oct. 6.

At about 1:10 a.m., an officer was conducting a routine patrol when he observed a silver sedan parked near the United States Post Office Circle Branch at 2601 Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1) in Lawrenceville.

The officer approached the occupants of the vehicle and discovered opened pieces of mail, along with checks and money orders in multiple people’s names, in the vehicle. The checks and money orders were taken from envelopes deposited in the mailbox at the post office.

Two 19-year-olds were arrested. Jordyn Williams of Irmo, South Carolina, was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, theft, trafficking personal identifying information, and hindering arrest, and she was released from custody on a criminal complaint summons.

Mikal Bush of Trenton was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, theft, and trafficking personal identifying information. He was taken to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending a detention hearing.

Since 2022, the Lawrence Township Police Department has received numerous reports from residents reporting check theft and fraud. In most of these cases, residents reported they had placed their checks into the United States Postal Service mailbox outside of the Circle Branch Post Office. In July, police arrested another mail theft suspect from New York near the same post office.
