Ocean State Job Lot, a discount retail chain with 146 stores across the Northeast, is set to open a new store at the site of the former Walmart at the Nassau Park Pavilion in West Windsor by the end of the year.

Founded in 1977, Ocean State Job Lot is a privately held discount retail chain with headquarters in Rhode Island. The company has stores in New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, employs about 5,600 people, and has annual sales exceeding $800 million. Job Lot sells brand-name merchandise, including household goods, kitchen pantry staples, clothing, pet supplies, holiday items, gardening supplies, patio furniture, and other items at closeout prices.

The West Windsor store will be Ocean State Job Lot’s seventh location in New Jersey. In June, the company purchased a former Toys ‘R Us store in Freehold that is scheduled to open next month.

The 136,622 square-foot West Windsor location will be divided into two retail spaces. More than 47,400 square feet will be dedicated to Ocean State Job Lot, and the remaining 89,182 square feet will be leased. The Ocean State Job Lot Real Estate Group owns and manages more than three million square feet of retail space in over 40 shopping centers throughout New England, New York, and New Jersey.

“We are so pleased to add another Ocean State Job Lot store in New Jersey,” said Paul Cox, director of store operations for Ocean State Job Lot, in a written statement. “The company is committed to continued expansion and growth throughout the Northeast and we hope to continue adding additional locations throughout the Garden State, creating jobs in the community and offering excellent value for shoppers.”

The company is hiring about 50 part-time and full-time workers for the West Windsor location. Employees receive a 30 percent store discount. The company is also offering bonuses, including a $300 cash bonus of $500 gift card for new hires and other people they refer for jobs. Employees receive an additional bonus of $250 after working at the store for 90 days. The company, named a four-time “Best Employer” by Forbes Magazine, offers benefits including medical, vision, and dental insurance to employees who work a certain number of hours. Job applications are being accepted online on the Ocean State Job Lot website.
