Nettie Mae George of Trenton dies at 101
Nettie Mae George (Nichols) died peacefully in her sleep at Complete Care Nursing Home in Hamilton on April 16. She was 101.
Born in Dillon, South Carolina on May 4, 1921, she was the fifth child of the late Nevada Nichols and Annie Ratley. She married her late husband, Oliver Hood George, on Dec. 24, 1941, and they were married for 59 years until his earthly departure. She lived in Trenton for many years until she needed nursing home care.
Nettie Mae will be remembered as a genuine, kind, and loving woman who touched many hearts. She was an exceptional cook, seamstress, wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who relied on her faith to live her life abundantly. She had a strong relationship with God and enjoyed attending church every Sunday. She attended New Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ernest D. Wormley, Jr. She served on the missionary board at the church. Nettie Mae worked primarily as a housekeeper and was a long-term employee of the Levine family. She was also employed at Hamilton Jewelers until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nevada Nichols and Annie Ratley; siblings: Hattie Nichols, Lorenzo Nichols, Sr, Embry Nichols, Clara Thweatt (Nichols), Robert Nichols, and Robert L. Nichols; and her granddaughter Tarshannon Nakia George. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Fodie Mae Hayes of Philadelphia, and Linda George and Ollie Mae George of Trenton, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends, including her beloved nephew, Lorenzo Nichols, Jr., and cousins Teareathe Floyd and Odessa Rogers.
