Princeton Public Events for December 3, 2012 to December 8, 2012

Princeton University offers a broad range of events that are open to the public and surrounding community. Hundreds of activities are held on campus every year; many are available to the community for free. Here are some of the highlights scheduled for the first week of December.

HIV Testing Fair (Monday, December 3, 2012 from 12:00pm-4:00pm; Frist Campus Center Multi-Purpose Room, B04B)

Hosted by the Student Global AIDS Campaign, Princeton University is offering free and confidential HIV testing on campus for Princeton students. Nearly 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV, with nearly 1/5 of individuals infected unaware of it. More than 7,000 people contract HIV every day, often unknowingly and needlessly, as the virus can be detected with a simple test. If you are a Princeton University student and would like to get tested, please stop by the campus booth for a confidential testing.

Tango Classes and Practice (Monday, December 3, 2012 at 7pm, 8:15pm, and 9:30pm; Carl A. Fields Center Large Multipurpose Room, 104)

For those of you who like to get a little cha-cha-cha on, the Princeton Tango Club is offering three tango classes followed by a practice session. Whether you have no previous experience or are a seasoned tango dancer, have no fear: the classes are offered at different levels depending on your skill. So whatever your comfort level or ability, feel free to join in and have some fun.

Asian American Discrimination (Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 4:30pm-6:00pm; McCosh Hall Room 28)

Despite major gains in the last few decades, discrimination is still an important and relevant topic. Deputy Director Jacinta Ma of the Asian American Justice Center will give a talk on the current status of discrimination against Asian Americans, including such familiar topics as affirmative action, civil rights defense by the AACF, military hazing, anti-Asian defamation, and violence against Asians in history. This even is hosted by Princeton University’s Asian American Students Association.

Tea & Talk (Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 12:00pm-2:00pm; Carl A. Fields Center, Class of 1985 Meeting Room)

Tea & Talk is hosted by the Davis International Center and co-sponsored by the University Health Services to provide a space for international students and students to meet and socialize, discussing both casual and more scholarly topics.
