Core Funding Areas – Sir John Templeton

Posted date:  October 29, 2012  |  No comment

The late Sir John Templeton established his Foundation to satiate his philanthropic goals in different areas. The well-defined funding areas help directing grants towards world-class researches and projects. The Foundation welcomes projects which involve freedom, creativity, purpose and gratitude in different disciplines.

Sir John Templeton made it clear that most of the Foundation’s resources shall go to research a range of fundamental scientific notions; evolution, complexity, time, emergence, and infinity. He was interested in the basic life phenomenon like creativity, prayer, free will, gratitude, intellect, love, generosity, and purpose. These topics define the extent of depth to agendas which we call the big questions. He wanted the research supported by his Foundation to have the highest intellectual standards.

Many research projects have been supported to honor Sir John’s vision of the Big Questions in many areas like:

  • Human Sciences

The Foundation supports projects based on concepts identified by Sir John Templeton. Political science, anthropology, psychology, and sociology are some of them.

  • Mathematical & Physical Sciences

Innovative projects that question the fundaments in mathematics are supported by the Foundation. Physics, chemistry, astronomy, cosmology or other physical sciences are some of the subjects taken up.

  • Philosophy & Theology

The Foundation supports projects that attempt to develop new philosophical and theological insights, in relation to scientific understanding.

  • Life Sciences

Projects probing the evolution and basic nature of life, human life and mind are taken up. Projects from archeology, biological sciences, paleontology, and neuroscience would also be welcome.

Exceptional Cognitive Talent & Genius

The Foundation works to identify and nurture young people who demonstrate brilliant aptitude in science and mathematics. Even internationally, the Foundation has funded academic training and competitions for underprivileged students who have extraordinary potential. These students otherwise would not have a chance to do justice to their talent.

Character Development

The Foundation supports researches right from childhood through young adulthood and beyond. It covers an array of publications, programs and studies fixated on the universal truths of character development.

Freedom & Free Enterprise

The Foundation supports a range of programs aimed to liberate the initiative of individuals and nations. The idea is to make the necessary conditions for the success of profitable enterprise.

Genetics

Research in genetics was a longstanding interest of Sir John Templeton. He saw the field’s extraordinary potential in order to explain the deepest principles of life’s evolution. Not only this, also providing breakthrough in agriculture and medicine fields.
